-  About gStats -  Features -  Download -  Help

Installing gStats should be a simple process. However, due to various servers and configurations problems can arise. Follow the steps outlined for the install and view the below notes if you have any problems.

Install Instructions
  1. Extract the downloaded gStats archive to a directory of your choice (<gStatsDir>).
  2. Upload <gStatsDir> to your server.
  3. chmod 766 the file /<gStatsDir>/includes/config/dbConfig.php
  4. chmod 777 the directory /<gStatsDir>/images/graphs/
  5. Direct browser to http://www.youdomain.com/<gStatsDir>/install/step1.php
Warning: this is for new installs only and will clear any prior gStats tables (or tables of the same name).
  6. After completing install, remove /<gStatsDir>/install/ directory.

Install Notes
  1. You may be able to combine steps 1 & 2 if you have shell access to your account. Uploading the archive and then extracting via the shell will likely be much faster then uploading the files separately.
  2. Steps 3 & 4 are only necessary on Unix/Linux type operating systems.
  3. Steps 3 & 4 may cause problems on certain configurations. Some systems place restrictions on what access permissions you can give your files. For more specifics, check with your host. Keep in mind that gStats must be able to write to /<gStatsDir>/includes/config/dbConfig.php (to store your database connection data) and /<gStatsDir>/images/graphs/ (for creating graphs on the fly).
  4. It is very IMPORTANT that you remove the install directory. If you do not, then anyone can reset your gStats installation. If you do not remove it, you will be warned every time your view your statistics.
